Capital Insight was Program Director
and Project Manager for the $200 million Western
Integrated Network (WIN) Stage 1 Program, a major
reorganisation and redevelopment
of health services and facilities in Western Sydney. Stage 1 of the WIN Program involved
a mix of new buildings and refurbishment work at
Westmead Hospital as follows:

Allied Health Therapies - incorporating
a rehabilitation gymnasium, hydrotherapy pool, speech pathology
voice laboratory, therapy treatment courtyard, consultation and
treatment rooms and office accommodation
-
Bone Marrow Transplant and Haematology Unit
- 1,000 square metres of refurbished space including a secure
monitoring station, ten transplant beds, two sing rooms for
infectious patients, nine standard single rooms and two two-bed
rooms, featuring an advanced room pressurisation system and
highly-specialised HEPA filtered airconditioning

Brain Injury Unit Transitional Living Unit
- an extension to the existing Brain Injury Unit, the lower
level of the facility included a kitchen, four bedrooms, bathrooms,
dining. living, laundry and courtyard areas. The upper level
included office accommodation, tutorial rooms and interview rooms
-
Cancer Care Centre - a 6,000 square
metre unit includes an existing radiation oncology facility
collocated with the new brachytherpary unit, consulting suites, day
care suite, satellite pharmacy, and a new PET suite
-
Cooling Tower Replacement -
construction of new towers adjacent to the old towers while they
remained operational, with the changeover process occurring
overnight
-
Critical Care Centre - a new 39-bed
intensive care and neuroscience trauma high dependency unit
-
Decanting - this complex redevelopment
involved the management of more than 80 relocations

Engineering Services - upgrades to
infrastructure including a pneumatic tube system, replacement of
BMS, chilled water and hot water pipe upgrade, new fire control
room, staircase pressurisation, new medical suction system plan and
reticulation networks, sub-mains, emergency generator sets, security
systems and main switch boards, new lifts and lift upgrades

Physical Containment Laboratory (PC4 Lab)
- a new laboratory, administration area, waste treatment plant,
plus an air-handling and plant room. The facility incorporates
a pneumatically-operated stainless steel door, decontamination
showers with shower-in and shower-out areas

Renal - redevelopment of the existing
2,400 square metre renal, urology and transplant comprehensive
clinical centre including a 32-bed integrated inpatient ward, a
15-bed renal dialysis unit, ambulatory treatment and general
department accommodation

Secure Transit Lounge - a 150 square
metre facility provides holding cells for prisoners requiring
medical attention and was constructed to Corrective Services
standards, including a complex interlock system. It includes three
two-person rooms and two single rooms each with its own ensuite

Women's Health and Newborn Centre - a
10,000 square metre new building and refurbishment of current
building included a new reception, 4-bed maternity day stay suite,
13 birthing suites, a 24-cot neonatal intensive care unit, a 20-cot
special care nursery, 41-bed post-natal unit, 15 bed pre-natal unit,
a 15-bed gynaecology unit and a new medical helipad on the rooftop.
