Gold Coast University Hospital  |  Queensland Health

Capital Insight is Project Manager for the $1.77 billion Gold Coast University Hospital project, a 750 bed tertiary hospital serving one of the fastest growing regions in Australia.  The new ‘green- field’ hospital, which will target a Greenstar 4 rating, and will deliver a range of specialty services including cardiac, cancer, neuro-sciences, neo-natal intensive care and trauma. The new hospital will integrate with the teaching and research functions of the adjacent Griffith University and is planned for opening in December 2012.

Our role has been to manage the Project Definition Planning and Master Planning, Schematic Design and Design Development phases of the project and to work with Queensland Health and Project Services to determine and subsequently managed specific procurement and audit requirements.  Our role also includes ensuring that the remaining elements of the project (ie. contract documentation, construction and commissioning) are delivered in a timely and cost effective manner and that the client's expectations are managed accordingly.

This project remains on a fast track process, which requires Capital Insight as the Project Manager, to ensure due diligence is shown in all aspects of the design and management.  This includes undertaking both process and product audits to provide the client with a level of confidence as the project progresses rapidly through each phase.

Another key role for Capital Insight is the interface with external stakeholders such as Main Roads, Gold Coast Rapid Transit Authority, Energex and Griffith University who all have major construction activity planned in and around the site over the coming years. This adds further complexity to an already complex project by highlighting issues such as site access, construction coordination and multiple contractors within a relatively compact construction precinct.
