The Kinghorn Cancer Centre | Garvan Institute of Medical Research & St Vincent's and Mater Health Sydney The Kinghorn Cancer Centre (formerly known as the Garvan St Vincent's Cancer Centre) project is a new $100 million building on the St Vincent's Research Precinct in Darlinghurst. The precinct currently comprises St Vincent's Hospital, the Garvan Institute of Medical Research and the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute and the planned National Institute of Virology. The precinct will eventually house over 1000 researchers encompassing all major disciplines essential to solving contemporary problems in medical and health research. The proposed facility will be constructed over eight levels above the Victoria Street frontage. There will also be four levels of basement car parking. The project has been designed to meet Australian best practice for health care facilities. During the design process guidance has been taken from a multitude of green rating tools including Green Star Health Care, Green Guide to Health Care, LEED Health Care, Labs 21 and TS11. Relevant targets and initiatives have been compiled in the area of energy, management, water, transport, materials and waste. |
