Madsen Building | The University of Sydney

Capital Insight was Project Director and Project Manager for the refurbishment and upgrade of research and laboratory facilities in the heritage listed Madsen Building.  The project involved the refurbishment of classrooms, geology and physics laboratories for use as geosciences undergraduate laboratories.

This heritage building, a combination of Gothic Revival and Art Deco influence, was developed during the 1940's, which provided  challenges such as limited access and latent conditions across all four levels.  Capital Insight was able to successfully work around the building constraints and continued use requirements through a six staged approach.

The outcomes of this project for the University include the installation of:

  • new high tech lecture rooms with audio-visual and VOIP technology

  • air-conditioning to offices and lecture rooms

  • new plant room and sprinkler extensions

  • upgrade to heritage perimeter corridors for all services.
