FACULTY OF LAW | The University of Sydney Capital Insight was Project Director and Project Manager for the $110 million Faculty of Law, which was the largest project within the University's Campus 2010+ Building for the Future Program, for which Capital Insight was also Project Director and Project Manager. Capital Insight managed an international design competition for the selection of the design team, through an acclaimed competition process. An important part of the design competition was the consideration of environmentally sustainable design principles. The 18,250 square metre building accommodates the faculty's academic and administrative staff over four levels, together with a range of research centre's, institutes, general teaching spaces, meeting and conference rooms and underground parking. Major components of the development included a moot court facility, law library, auditoriums, lecture theatres, teaching spaces, cafes, public forecourt, Early works demolition included demolition of the Edgeworth David Building and Steven Roberts Theatre, which led the way for bulk excavation of 35,000 cubic metres of material. This allowed a 420 car multi-level car park beneath the Faculty of Law, relieving parking pressures within the University. Challenges included construction of a unique building facade, decommission of Energy Australia's high voltage infrastructure across the site, decommission and relocation of the Sydney Water main throughout the site, and relocation of a heritage significant fig tree located on a planned road alignment. |
